The cake is one of the details I'm most excited about picking for my wedding. There is a place in CA, Caske Divas who I would love to do my cake but I'm on the east coast.
Does anyone have any cake places they can recommend in NY from experience?
Thanks!:

Well if you want a really detailed and one of a kind unforgettable cake, I would try CakeLine by Cynthia Peithman.
Here are what some of her wedding cakes look like:

It looks like she can create anything you want.

If you are anywhere near this area (upstate NY) I would suggest Lori's Lucious Layers. Amazing! Her name says it all. Gorgeous and tasty. I know taste is important to me- I have been to many wedding receptions and the cakes were pretty but not tasty at all.

I love the site listed below. Last check they worked out of NY, NY and do cakes for all types of events. I am not sure of their prices but I know they have a very broad design style so whether you are looking for fun, elegant or something else good chance you can find it at this place.
Check out this site: http://www.colettescakes.com/wedding_cc.html (designs featured on TV too awesome!)

I went to a wedding where Collete made the cake. It was amazing, beautiful and really tasty. She also has a book that I was browsing in the book store a few weeks ago. In New York, it is Collette and Sylvia Weinstock that make the best wedding cakes, but they are really expensive. There is another place called Cupcakecafe.com that makes amazing cakes for 25% of what these "celebrity bakers" charge. The cakes are a little heavy though, but they look really expensive when they are not.

I agree. Her cakes are just stunning. And though they are pricey they are so worth it. Elegant and gorgeous!

I love love LOVE these cakes. I'm considering ordering one for my wedding. It would just fit in so perfectly.
Does anyone know if this is purely NY based?

I would recommend going around to the different bakeries in your area and start tasting. This is the only way you will be sure that you love your cake. They also have books filled with different cakes they can make. If you want a certain design, make sure they can do it before you get too involved with that baker.

I would have to agree with sunshine. You need to hit the pavement and start tasting cakes from local bakeries. And, if I think one is really yummy, you may think it is gross. You want to select the kind and style that you like.

Let me show you the cake during my wedding. It's very simple to look at. Actually, my sister is the one who made this wedding cake. It's a gift for me.

Crystal, the thread starter was asking for suggestions for NY cake makers.
At Thread Starter -- you do the suggested cake testing route. That is the best way you will get what you want.

In New York, we often book the original Cakediva, Charmaine Jones (Food Channel, Ace of Cakes, MTV, All My Children, etc.) for our clients. We recommend her without qualification. Your tasting will do the magic though.
She's got a few studio locations but the most convenient is on 38th Street in New York City, so tastings are a breeze.
