I made my bouquet with silk flowers.  This way, I could keep them in a vase as home decor.

Silks were also used on the chairs around the tables at the reception, allowing everyone to take some home with them at the end of the evening.

That is a really good idea. Fresh flowers can be so expensive and whereas it is your wedding day it is still nice if things can be used more then once. I never liked the idea of having to watch all my beautiful fresh flowers die. You can even dye the silk ones as well if you have trouble finding the right shade.

OMG what a concept.  I never would have thought of that.  I use silk flowers all the time because I do not have good light in my apartment and I really like orchids, so I have these really realistic silk orchids at home.  But for my bridal bouquet??  This way I really will be able to keep it forever.  Thanks for the AWESOME idea.

One of the things I love about flowers is the scent.

Can you buy scent and put a few drops on the silk flowers to create a more realistic atmosphere?

Where can the scent be purchased?

I used silk flowers for my wedding too. This way I didn't have to worry about them.  I still have them saved to show my daughter some day.

I'd imagine that you can put some scent on the silk flowers to give them a fragrance you like.

My wife had white and pink roses and she dried them after the wedding. We still have the flowers at our house.

If you go to a craft store like A.C Moore or Michael's they have sections for weddings where you'll find everything you need to make your own bouquet. You can make it as simple or as elaborate as you would like and they also sell some really nice silk flowers. And just think you may not be able to afford the fresh flower bouquet of your dreams, but you could certainly make (or have someone make) it out of silk flowers. They also sell oils so your flowers can smell real.

****Don't forget to make (or buy if you are using fresh flowers) a smaller bouquet for the toss so you can keep the one yours****************

I personally think that fresh flowers are still best. If you want to preserve your bouquet, do the smaller bouquet for tossing and SAVE the official bouquet by having a professional freeze it or dry it and have it mounted in a shadow box.

That way you can display it.

You can find fragrance oils on websites and at stores that also carry sopa making and candle making supplies.

They are less expensive than essential oils, and a little goes a long way.  You can blend the fragrance oil with distilled water and a little cyclomethicone, which is  a plant silicone that helps the fragrance cling.  Place your blend in a fine mist spray bottle, and test your blend on a swatch or two of the fabrice that will be used for your flowers..

Oh my goodness. I'm sure your bouquet was breathtaking! I like how someone offered the fragrance idea because that would be one of my concerns. I love love love fresh flowers but you definitely don't want a dried out bouqet on your special day!

I love this idea! I want to run to A.C Moore right now and just practice making my bouquet. I never even thought of this idea until this post! Laughing
